Footwear: Walking Boots and Thick Walking Socks

  • Walking boots and thick walking socks are a must. We recommend sturdy, comfortable walking boots with ankle support. As the weather can be unpredictable, a pair of waterproof boots will keep your feet dry should conditions turn wet. You should ensure your boots are well worn-in before you set off on your trip. You will also want a good quality walking sock that will keep your feet comfortable. (It's always a clever idea to pack a spare)

Waterproofs: Rain Jacket and Waterproof Pants

  • Waterproofs are always worth having even if the weather is forecast to be favourable. The most important aspect here is that they are waterproof (unsurprisingly) & breathable.

Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa, is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands. It is located in Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd

Clothing: Layers are your friend

  • When it comes to clothing, layers are vital for staying comfortable no matter the weather. Layering clothes is an easy way to adjust your outfit to suit the environment. On a chilly day, start with a base layer of lightweight fabric like cotton or merino wool, then add a mid-layer of fleece or wool for warmth, and top off with a waterproof jacket. This way, you can easily take off layers if you get too warm. During the summer months, lighter layers are great for keeping cool while still protecting yourself from the sun's rays. A thin cotton t-shirt with a light cardigan can be perfect for those cooler evenings. No matter the season, layering is an essential part of any wardrobe!

Hat & Gloves:

  • When you're out walking in the mountains, it's essential to keep your head and hands warm. Investing in quality headwear and gloves can make a huge difference when you're out and about, shielding you from the cold winds and keeping your body temperature regulated. Look for items made from materials like wool, fleece, and synthetic fabrics that are designed to wick away moisture and keep you warm even in extreme temperatures. Keeping your head and hands warm is an easy way to make sure your experience on Snowdon is as enjoyable as possible!

Bags:

  • Rucksack/Backpack - You will want to take a roomy backpack with you. We would recommend one with a capacity of between 25 and 35 litres, to store all your items.

Trekking Poles:

  • Trekking poles are a matter of personal preference. But they can provide extra stability on uneven terrain, help you keep your balance on steep slopes and provide extra support for tired legs on the descent. When selecting your trekking poles, consider the weight of the poles, the material they're made from, and the type of grip they have. These key factors will ensure you get the most out of your trekking experience!

Hydration & Sun Protection:

  • A supply of drinking water for hydration, a good lunch for sustenance (bring plenty), and some snacks to provide sugar intake as a boost when you need it.
  • Head covering, sun glasses, sun screen - high factor to prevent burn, bring even if you are not expecting sun.
